The pretrial conference is a part of all divorce litigation in Israel.
So what is it and who takes part in it?
Basically it is a mini hearing where the judge tries to ascertain what issues are going to be in front of him. He also tries to see if the sides can work out a settlement without going through full blown litigation. All the parties are supposed to show up – the attorneys 9at a very minimum) and the parties to the litigation.
In the event that the judge isn’t able to do these things, he will listen to preliminary motions, set timelines for discovery, and set down the general guidelines for how the issues in front of him are to be dealt with.
